The Election Commission released the results for all 243 seats of the Bihar Assembly late on Friday night. The complete list of winning and losing candidates is available on the commission’s website. Counting of votes began at 8 a.m. In this election, the NDA registered a major victory, while the Grand Alliance collapsed completely.
In the results, the BJP won 89 seats, JDU got 85, LJP (RV) secured 85, HAM (S) won 5, and RLM gained 4 seats. This means the NDA won a total of 202 seats across the state.
On the other side, RJD managed to win 25 seats. Congress won 6, CPI (ML) Liberation got 2, and CPI(M) secured 1 seat. In total, the Grand Alliance was limited to only 34 seats, showing its weakest performance in recent years.
Talking about other parties, Asaduddin Owaisi’s AIMIM performed impressively and won 5 seats. Mayawati’s BSP also managed to win 1 seat, while IIP claimed victory on 1 seat as well. These parties played a small but noticeable role in this election.
After the results, everyone’s attention has shifted to the Chief Minister’s post. The BJP had already declared that Nitish Kumar would remain CM if the NDA won. However, the opposition repeatedly claimed that the BJP would not let Nitish stay in the top post. Because of this, people are now more curious about who will finally become the next Chief Minister of Bihar.
One of the most dramatic contests was on the Raghopur seat. Tejashwi Yadav, the opposition’s CM face and son of Lalu Yadav, barely managed to retain his seat. He was trailing in the early rounds but finally won by 14,532 votes. BJP’s Satish Kumar gave him a tough fight. It is worth noting that Satish Kumar had defeated Rabri Devi from the same seat in 2010.
